Minnesotan, don't cha know?

Something weird is happening to me. When we came here last April to find a place to live it was still snowing outside and the temps were somewhere in the 30's. We saw crazy people wearing shorts and flip flops at Mall of America. I think now I am starting to understand what this cold weather can do to people. Today it was 22 degrees outside and that is the warmest it has been in quite awhile. I took my gloves off and I even took the kids' mittens off as well (yes, that's right). TRUST ME it totally felt warm enough to not wear anything over our hands but I did leave their coats and hats on. I am starting to drive the actual speed limit just like my fellow neighbors and I am extra curtious at the four way stop signs. Yikes, I'm becoming one of them!

You spin me round (like a record)

The other day I saw a commercial showing some classic break dancing music with Herbie Hancock playing in the background. The 80's always seem to make me laugh a little. I remember owning acid washed jeans and then trying to pour bleach over my denim pants with my older sister to get that really cool look. It was a good time to have curly hair but those times seem to be long gone, oh well. It was an even cooler time to have bangs, but they had to be really big bangs. In the 80's you could buy a satin poofy dress and have your shoes dyed to match your dress perfectly. I wonder if these horrible dresses will ever make a come back, I sure hope not. During these times I had to basically live through my older sister who was in check with what was "for sure" cool or "gag me with a spoon" bad. She had a Jessica Mclintock dress that I secretly borrowed one time to wear, it was all that I could dream about wearing. If I didn't have an older sister I don't think that there would have been much for me to remember about this decade. I remember my mom sewing me a million pairs of "jams" like they were the greatest thing ever. Oh yes, I had a pair of florescent green shorts in elementary school and I remember thinking that they were a little wierd but my mom insisted that it was the style. Indeed it was.

I will SURVIVE!

I have to be honest, being new to MN and all, I have been quite disappointed with the temperatures. I was expecting to be cold beyond belief and to shiver at night in my bed. Finally today it has reached a whole new level of cold. Finally I can say that I have really experienced cold weather. I took Rex to his primary activity at 10am this morning and it was -12 degrees outside. I don't have to walk in this blistering weather like Will but from what I understand after a quick speedy 5 minute walk to his car he felt his face stiffen with a tinge of pain. That is with a scarf wrapped around his face up to his eyes. I still want to see water pouring from a cup that soon turns to ice once it hits the ground, see small clusters of ice form on my eye lashes, and see my door lock become frozen. I am still waiting for it to be colder I guess. The weather guy said that with the wind chill it will be -40. I know that I am crazy, but I love this cold weather!

Ooooops

The other night I was coming home with my two kids and it was dark. I decided to drive to our mailbox before when drove into our garage. I got out and left the car on and used the other half of my keys to open my mailbox. Well, to my surprise the car had locked itself. I froze for a few seconds and tried to think what in the world was I going to do. In my panic I ran to the only neighbor that had their lights on. I rang the doorbell and waited and waited and nobody came at all. Once my mind became clear I soon realized that I had my house key with my mailbox key in my pocket. Duh, not sure why it took me sooo long to figure that one out. I said a silent little prayer and left the kids (I had no choice) and I ran into my home and called Will. Then I broke down on the phone with Will and he helped me to regain focus and he also said that there was no way he could leave the hospital (I suppose if I was dying then maybe the oral surgery dept would allow him to come home, maybe). Thankfully it was only 27 degrees outside and I left the heat going in the car. After four phone calls I finally found a locksmith that was open at 7:30pm and could come right over to get my kids out of the car. After I got off the phone I ran back down to the mailbox and at about 30 ft before I reached the car I could hear Rex screaming his head off. Ella was just sitting quietly and then she would fuss a little to join in the fun with Rex. I waited for about 20 minutes which felt like an eternity because I had no gloves or hat on so I just stood next to the window so Rex could see me and I was just praying that he would not vomit from all of his hysterical screaming. About 30 minutes into this whole ordeal the locksmith drove right up and $55.00 later, my kids were rescued! Rex was completely exhausted from crying that he collasped into his bed. I am so thankful that the heat was on, and that this locksmith happened to answer his phone when I needed him so very much.

New Year= New Changes

Rex watching for the school bus. (In case you are wondering about that white blur out the window...it is snow and it has been their since sometime last November...IF it ever reaches above 32 degrees outside I am sure that we will see the ground once again.) Rex was so excited until I had to put him on the bus. He screamed and screamed while the other kids were well entertained by his production. He did much better the next time he rode the bus.
Rex's first day of preschool.
Still sportin' the crown.
Rex has the best Sunbeam teacher. He has a little tote bag that his teacher made for him to bring home his lesson hand outs each week along with songs and pictures to review with Rex. How cool is that.
Rex has only been 3yrs. old for a few weeks and now he is officially a SUNBEAM. I was so nervous for him but he did really well on his first day. He stayed on his chair and followed directions. I can only hope that things will stay this way for him and for his teacher.

Happy 3rd Birthday Rex!!!

"W" says "wuh." You will never meet another kid that loves the letter W more than Rex does. He was soooo excited when he saw his birthday cake shaped liked the letter W. It was priceless to see his reaction when he looked at that yummy cake just for him. It is hard to believe that he is no longer a toddler anymore.

The poor guy has lost a grand total of 34 pounds from this lovely resident life. But do not worry, this rotation will change in March so it can only get better right? As for now I am wearing all of the hats around here so I will try to find time somewhere in my life to update my blog again.
