Tonight was our ward Halloween party and the kids had a ball. I decided to dress them alike since they are too young to care what they are for Halloween. An older lady asked if Ella was a mexican for Halloween. I just knodded. Um, 1/4 mexican if anyone cares. I saw a lot of princess costumes that made me realize what I have to look forward to in the years to come. We left at almost 8pm and the party was still going with games and activities. We missed out on the trunk or treat but we figured that we will get our dose of that on Halloween night. Otherwise it was a fun filled night and I am so proud that Rex kept his hat on the entire time.

Halloween Treats
We thought that it would be fun to make some halloween treats that the kids could have a part in. Rex was so excited about the cookies that he could hardly wait to put the frosting on he just wanted to go straight to eating the cookie. Rex and Ella had so much fun with the gingerbread house that we had to really force them away from it when too much sugar was consummed. I think that we will have to do this again for Christmas.

Ingested toothbrush
Looks like this is becoming a new trend or just a regular old hobby. It is hard to see but if you look closely on the female's left side (your right side) you can actually see the head of the toothbrush. This is not the patient that Will saw it is just a photo that I found on the web. I was very shocked to see this when I was just looking for a simple picture of a toothbrush by itself. If you click on the photo you can see the head of the toothbrush much better.

Got TOOTHBRUSH in your tummy?

You are never going to believe this!!! Will is still on his anesthesia rotation and this past weekend he was taking in house call which means that he stays at the hospital for 24 hours straight. Things were a little slow because it was the weekend. He had a rather strange case come up. Apparently a woman in her late twenties said that she had a portion of a dorito chip stuck in her throat. So she took it upon herself to use a toothbrush to try to retrieve that delicious dorito. Well, the dorito won and she swallowed her toothbrush!!!! The surgeons tried to use a scope to get the toothbrush out but they could not get to it, so they had to make an incision on her tummy. Will said that the surgeons could not understand why her reflexes did not prevent the toothbrush from going down. Will also said that the patient was a little out in left field if you know what I mean.

Again??
Rex has this problem where he enjoys taking the "child proof" knob off the inside of his bedroom door. Immediately following that he opens his door and laughs and walks out of his room. I don't know how he is able to break apart the "child proof" knob but the point is that he can do it. We also have one on our inside front door which no adults (other than Will and myself) can figure out how to use it. I went to a few stores to find something better but I can only find what Rex can destroy! Does anybody have any good ideas?

The Hyltons
We were so excited to have the Hyltons visit us for an entire weekend. Elena drove from Chicago to St. Paul for eight hours by herself with her twins! Wow! She is amazing. Joe was in Montana that weekend so she had to do it all solo. I had so much fun with her and I know that I just talked her ear off the whole weekend. Her boys are so adorable and Rex kept asking about them after they left. BTW, Elena is the most patient mother that I have ever, ever seen. We all enjoyed them and hope to see them again soon.
Soaked
Rain, rain, go away! We have been so lucky to have nice weather yet it is starting to feel like spring with all of the rain. The other night we were out at Sam's club getting a few items and then we were ready to check out. Not so fast, just as we were trying to leave we were told to go back inside the store and move to the middle of the building. We could hear tornado sirens going off during this commotion. Will wanted to just leave and drive away because he did not want hail to hit our car. I on the other hand wanted to just seek safe shelter and the car was the least of my worries. I just stood there and imagined a big tornado ripping off the roof and scattering those heavy pallets across our heads. Nothing happened and we were able to leave a little while later. I know that I need to give heed to those warning signs and not pretend that we are in the desert where nothing abruptly occurs. It turns out that there was a tornado that touched down about two miles from our home. We were so soaked from walking out to our car that we just let the kids play in the rain.
